Nessian On The Job

Through our On the Job series, we introduce some of the men and women who play a pivotal role in the success story charted by Ness. In this edition, Tomas Futas, gives a sneak peek into his career growth, daily operations at Ness and why he’s better than Chuck Norris.

NAME: Tomas Futas

JOB: Program Director

CAREER PATH:
After completing a PhD scholarship at the Kurt Gödel Research Center for Mathematical Logic at Vienna University, I decided to transition from academic work to software development, which had always been my hobby (my first computer was an Atari 800 XE back in mid-1980s). I started at a small company in Kosice where I worked on projects for a local utility company. In 2009, I joined Ness at its Kosice Technology Innovation Center (KTIC) and worked as a team lead on a project for a global company that develops mapping and location technology solutions. Our team built a new platform from scratch, which enables the delivery of a dozen of visual products to the company’s customers. In 2012, I moved to the United States to work on-site with the customer. After two years, my family and I moved back to Kosice. I’m now the program director for that same client, and I also oversee Ness’s engagement with a leading global provider and integrator of smart access, booking, ticketing, payment and clearing systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the delivery of solutions to customers
  • Solve escalations raised by customers and/or employees
  • Support team leads in their daily work
  • Work with the management and sales teams on new business opportunities

THREE THINGS YOU DO DURING A TYPICAL WORKDAY?

  • 9:00 AM – Talk with the team leads about highlights and any issues within their teams
  • 10:00 AM – Meet with the delivery management team to discuss our progress on delivery and how we can help each other
  • 1:00 PM – Check with the Recruitment Department on the progress with hiring of new employees

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT WORKING FOR NESS?
I like working for Ness because it provides opportunities to work with many interesting global organizations. I also like the team environment and working with so many intelligent people. Together we’ve built many sophisticated solutions that are implemented around the world.

FUN PERSONAL FACT:
They say Chuck Norris counted to infinity – twice. As a set theorist, I can count to infinity even faster – assuming you specify which infinity you mean ☺
